Leduc County Dance Challenge

Hosted by the Leduc Dance Collective

In support of KidSport Leduc & County

At the Maclab Centre for the Performing Arts in Leduc

We are so excited to be partnering with KidSport Leduc & County with the launch of this initiative.   

Objective: To bring dancers in Leduc County together under one venue To share our best efforts with one another.  To build supportive relationships through the dance community as a whole in the Leduc region.  To receive pre-competition season feedback to help our Leduc County dancers shine on stages across Alberta this season.

Format: A  one day competition. Initially, each studio may enter up to 3 routines.  If any studio does not claim their entry spots, then WildCard Spaces will be offered by random selection to participating studios. 

Important Dates

January 20, 2026: Confirmation Deadline 

January 20, 2026: WildCard Confirmations

February 1, 2026: Performance Information Deadline – Information for pieces submitted, Dance title, choreographer, number of participating dancers and names of dancers participating.

February 20, 2026: Silent Auction Item Deadline, Volunteer Submission 

February 28, 2026 – Leduc County Dance Challenge hosted by the Leduc Dance Collective

February 28, 2026 – Master Class is adjudicator following competition – REGISTER

Silent Auction Commitment

We are hosting a Silent Auction in support of KidSport Leduc & County.

Each routine entered is required to provide 1 Silent Auction item.

WildCard entries do not require an auction item, but would be appreciated 

Deadline to submit any Silent Auction Donation is February 20, 2026

Items should be valued at a minimum of $50.  Examples of donated items in the past: sports memorabilia, show tickets, sporting event tickets, pamper baskets, dance wear, class passes, gift cards, jewelry, purses, home decor.

Volunteer Commitment

The Leduc County Dance Challenge does require volunteers to help make the competition day successful.  Studios entering the competition will be asked to contribute a minimum of 2 volunteers.  These volunteers will be placed into various roles and time slots depending on the competition needs. They will need to be available to volunteer for the duration of the competition.  Volunteers will be rotated to allow them to watch their own child/ren on stage. Some positions available are sign in and sign out, runners, front of house, ushers, concession and silent auction table.  Your assistance in running a smooth day is greatly appreciated. 

Note:  Teachers/supervisors will also be required to be with their groups during the show to monitor dancers and will be asked to wait with their studios until all participating dancers from their studio have been picked up following the event.  Leduc Dance Collective staff are not responsible for the supervision of youth under 18. 

Tickets

  • Leduc County Dance Collective tickets will go on sale on January 1, 2026.  Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased directly through TicketPro on the Maclab Centre for the Performing Arts website.  There are no minimums on tickets.  Ticket sales are first come first served so please tell your members to order early to avoid disappointment.  Studios will be provided with ordering links to forward to their members once tickets go live.
  • Performing dancers will receive an entry pass and will be able to watch at the discretion of their instructors.  Please DO NOT purchase theatre tickets for your participating dancers.
  • Volunteers will receive an entry wristband. Please DO NOT purchase theatre tickets for your participating volunteers.
  • Studios will receive 2 Instructor wristbands per studio.

Withdrawals

  • Leduc Dance Collective acknowledges a teacher’s right to withdraw any of their entries. NO REFUNDS will be given for withdrawals.

Adjudication

  • Studios will receive written feedback from all 3 of our LCDC adjudicators. 
  • Studios will receive a video of each of their studios dance entries
  • Adjudication will follow the last routine of the event.
  • When providing feedback and scoring, adjudicator’s will take into account the average age of the group, the average years of training of the group as well as the average years of training of each group. All entries will be scored and awarded as to the appropriate and/ or expected skill of their age level
  • All entries will be judged by a panel of 3 adjudicators and will be given a score out of 100 points
  • The three scores are averaged to produce the final score
  • Any and all ties will be broken using the judge with the highest score.

    • 80-82.99 Silver
    • 83-84.99 High Silver
    • 85-89.99 Gold
    • 90-93.99 High Gold
    • 94-100 Sapphire

Overall awards will depend on the amount and type of entries received, but will include:

Age Levels

  • Please round up when determining average age 

Levels

  • Novice ~ 1-2 years of training 
  • Junior ~ 3-5 years of training 
  • Intermediate ~ 6-8 years of training 
  • Senior ~ 9+ years of training 
  • Professional ~ routine composition is more than 50% instructor or professional level dancers
  • Advanced ~ more than 8 hours of training per week 

*Use total years of training across all disciplines, beginning at the age of 6, including the current season*

Group Sizes

  • Duet ~ 2 dancers
  • Trio ~ 3 dancers
  • Small Group ~ 4-9 dancers 
  • Medium Group ~ 10-15 dancers
  • Large Group ~ 16+
  • Extra Large Group 

Time Limits

All entries will have a 5 minute maximum, which includes prop placements and removal

We will do our best to stay on time.  Please be present and prepared in the case we are running ahead.  The event may run no more that 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled times

Music

  • Music will be played from the stage
  • Teachers will be responsible for playing their own music
  • Aux cords will be available
  • Please have your music cued properly
  •  No use of stage mics in any discipline

Lighting

  • Lighting will be simple stage lighting with no black outs or special cues.

Stage & Props

  • No body or hair glitter or use of any substances that will change the condition of stage and make it dangerous for following performers will be permitted.
  • All props and backdrops are to be free standing and speedy in set up by studio officials

Backstage

  • Instructors and Performers will be the only permitted backstage with their backstage passes 
  • Due to limited space, no parents backstage in the dressing rooms please. 
  • Instructors who require additional help from their parents to place large props, may request an exception.

Photography/Videography

  • Parents, dancers and instructors are encouraged to take photos in the lobby.  No photography is permitted in the theatre.
  • No videography is permitted in the theatre.  Studio directors will receive a copy of each of their studio dances to use at their discretion.
  • Failure to follow the photography and videography guidelines could result in disqualification of the dancers or studio.

Expectations

  • We value encouragement and above all a positive experience to all dancers. 
  • We expect positivity and good sportsmanship from all dancers, instructors and parents.  
  • We are a family competition, and all content, music, choreography, and costumes must be appropriate.
